Hi, me here.
You know, the girl who likes to take road trips and share all of her travels with you. Yep, that’s the same girl who lives in a culturally-rich, activity-filled area of the U.S., but rarely shares about what’s happening in her own backyard!
I have vowed to change that! I want you guys to get a chance to experience all that my beautiful area in South Central PA has to offer!
I’ve lived in Lancaster County now for 20 years, and while we’re pretty well recognized for the Amish and our outlet shopping, we also have a really rich theater scene. One of the places I had yet to visit that was high on my priority list was Sight and South Theatre. Which is kind of ridiculous that I’ve never been there, because I’ve only heard fantastic things about it, and my sister-in-law actually works there! She works on all the wigs for the actors, and I’ve been wanting to see her skills in action!
It did not disappoint. At all.
I took my daughter and 2 nieces, and there were gasps just driving up! We weren’t even inside yet and these girls were impressed!
Everything is LARGE and impressive and jaw-dropping!
Speaking of jaw-dropping, during the whole first half, every time I looked at the girls their mouths were hanging open. There were animals walking right up the aisle beside us, camels on the stage, Joseph flying over the audience during his dream. It was incredible! And these girls had their mouths just hanging open!
There are no pictures allowed during the show, so while it was intermission, I asked them to re-create it for me.
Just act natural I said. Pretend there’s a camel right beside you (yanno, like there was 20 minutes ago!!). Show me how surprised you are, I said.
Seriously. This is what they give me to work with. And this, my friends, was after about 16 tries. Obviously, these 3 won’t be acting on this stage any time soon, but they will happily be in the audience again!
In fact, they’re already asking when we can go back for the Christmas show or Sampson. And with this in the lobby to promote Sampson, who can blame them! This was enormous!! Look carefully down in the lower right corner. That is an adult woman standing beside it!
Their motto really does hold up- “Where the Bible comes to life!”
I took a picture of the program since we couldn’t take pictures during the show. Just imagine this in scene after scene. It was just breathtaking and I got choked up at a few different parts.
I highly recommend taking your kids to experience this first-hand! We are very much looking forward to our next visit! My goodness, these 3 talked the entire way home re-creating the entire thing!
The whole evening was just such an enjoyable experience! The parking is free, the dress code is casual (these 3 just wanted to wear dresses!), the concessions are VERY reasonably priced, you’re right in the heart of Amish country to explore even more and the play will spark some wonderful conversation!
