We recently partnered with the Hotel Indigo East End to review everything the property had to offer. We also were given the opportunity to explore the local town of Riverhead, NY and some of it’s attractions!
While we’ve been to New York City many times, this was our 1st time to ever visit Long Island. We’ve never really made the trek outside of the city or knew of any reasons why we should! It was such a treat to be able to review the Hotel Indigo property as first-time visitors to this area of the country.
When we’re looking for new hotels to stay at, we have a few criteria that we always keep in mind:
- What types of room set-ups do they offer?
- What amenities does the hotel offer?
- Where is the hotel located in proximity to area attractions?
With those three key things in mind, we made our way to Long Island New York for a fun weekend!
Hotel Indigo Room Options
Now that we are solidly in the “family with 2 teenagers” phase of life, the room set-ups in hotels has become even more important. Sharing a bed isn’t exactly top of the list for a 14 year old girl and her 16 year old brother! While they are always good sports about it, everyone’s vacation is more enjoyable if they can have separate beds (or at least a queen where they never have to touch!).
Fortunately for us, the Hotel Indigo East End does have roll-away cots that they offer for many of their guest rooms. We were placed in a room with two full-size beds. If you are in need of a roll away cot, just make sure you let them know when you make your reservation, so they can be sure to place you in a room that allows for that. They also offer rooms with a queen size bed if that is your preference.
You can also request to be put in a poolside room for easy access to the pool. This would be a great option if you have kids!
The rooms have modern, gorgeous bathrooms that accommodated our family of four perfectly.
If your room does not have a fridge in it, you can call down to the front desk and they are more than happy to bring one up for you! A perk that we often take advantage of when we’re traveling. Don’t be afraid to ask!
Hotel Amenities at Hotel Indigo East End NY
We love staying at a hotel that has a restaurant on-site and Bistro 72, a farm to table restaurant, did not disappoint! Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet or lunch or dinner. One of my favorite parts of the restaurant was all the outside seating! They even had poolside servers if you’re enjoying pool time with your family and get hungry.
In addition to the standard meal times, Bistro 72 offers late night snacks, a full-service bar and live entertainment certain days of the week! I do recommend making a dinner reservation if you are there during their busy season as it can get crowded.
They also have a lower level ballroom where they often host entertainment and other activities. Be sure to check out their site for a full schedule of upcoming events!
Of course, with kids, our #1 amenity that we look for in a hotel is usually a pool. They will gladly spend many hours at a hotel pool, and we will gladly let them! Especially when the pool area is as gorgeous as the one at Hotel Indigo East End! Be sure to check out their site to see what this heated, salt water pool looks like in all its glory when the season is in full bloom!
There is also plenty of outdoor seating outside of the pool with fireplaces to create a welcoming ambiance! The perfect place to enjoy some late night snacks and a glass of wine!
Riverhead, NY Local Attractions
Another great perk of the Hotel Indigo, is that they offer shuttle service to some of the local wineries, Tanger Outlet Center and other attractions. A great option if you took the train from NYC and don’t have a vehicle with you!
Osprey’s Dominion Vineyard
We had the chance to visit Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards while we were on Long Island. It was just a short drive from Hotel Indigo and was our first glance at seeing the surrounding area.
It was a really fun atmosphere where the whole family was welcome to come enjoy an afternoon! A great place to spend a gorgeous afternoon with a food truck, live music, lawn games…
And a wine tasting for the over 21 crowd!
Garden of Eden Organic Farm and Market
We also made a stop at Garden of Eden Farm and Market which is so much more than just your traditional farmers market! For a small admittance fee, there are all kinds of play equipment for the kids, hay rides, and a small petting zoo!
Local Beaches in Long Island
Hotel Indigo is also minutes from one of the country’s top 10 beaches, Cupsog Beach. But there are plenty of other local beaches, and you have your choice between ocean and bay-side beaches! Feel free to bring your bike along as well as there are plenty of bike trails with gorgeous views!
The Riverhead Ciderhouse
Also local to the Hotel Indigo was The Riverhead Ciderhouse. This is another ideal spot to bring the whole family for a delicious meal, live entertainment and more!
We were treated to a flight of hard ciders (my favorite adult drink!), some pesto pizza (you have to check out the pizza menu!), and homemade guacamole! Pretty sure the guac was my son’s favorite part of the whole weekend! It was that good!
They even had a great courtyard with more yard games! It was such a festive and fun atmosphere!
Long Island Aquarium
Our last stop for the weekend (and a great way to end it on a bang!) was the Long Island Aquarium. It was a quick 10-15 minute drive from the Hotel Indigo through a quaint little town. If you’re looking for local places to eat as opposed to chains, head towards the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead!
The whole Aquarium had a really neat Atlantis theme running through it that was great for photo opps! They even had sunken Atlantis treasures in the shark tank!
We loved the sea lion show and watching them through the inside window. They’d come right up to the glass and put on little shows for us!
But there’s so much to see there, that you’ll have to take an afternoon and visit all the animals yourself! Don’t forget to visit the Penguin Exhibit where there’s a dome inside you can pop your head up in to interact with them!
Hotel Indigo East End, Riverhead NY
It was so nice at the end of our busy days to head back to the comfort of the Hotel Indigo… especially since it wasn’t far from all of our activities at all!
It checked off all of our boxes when it comes to choosing a hotel for vacations, and is a great spot to explore all that Long Island has to offer!
Be sure to visit the Hotel Indigo site to learn more and book your vacation!
